YouTube Configuring YouTube Privacy

Step 1

Let’s configure your YouTube Privacy Settings.  While logged into your account head to: http://www.youtube.com/account#privacy/

Step 2

Let’s update your settings.

We’ll start with Search and Contact Restrictions. This is where you can decide to only allow your friends to send messages or share videos.

If you chose this option, anyone who is not listed as your YouTube friend will not be able to send you messages, or share your videos. Since you’re using YouTube to promote your business, we recommend leaving this box unchecked.

You can also chose to allow others to find your channel by searching for your email address. We recommend leaving this box checked.

Step 3

The Advertising Settings let’s you decide what type of ads are displayed on videos you watch.  We recommend checking the box marked “Please use my account information to provide me with relevant advertising”.  This way, YouTube will use information about you to show you ads that are more meaningful and relevant to you.

Step 4

Statistics and Data lets you decide whether or not you’d like to share statistical information about your videos – like how many views a video has received. We recommend checking the box marked, “Make statistics and data for my videos publicly visible by default”.

Step 5

Once you’re happy with the Privacy Settings on your YouTube account, Click Save Changes.

Step 6

Now let’s look at Privacy Settings on an individual video level. From the main menu Click My Videos & Playlists.

Step 7

You’ll see the first video you uploaded to your YouTube Account.  The video is set to “Public” by default. To change the privacy setting on this video, Click Edit.

Step 8

About three quarters of the way down the Video Settings page you should see a window marked Broadcasting and Sharing Options. The first option under this section is Privacy.

Step 9

You’ve got three options for privacy:

Public - anyone in the world can view or search for this video.

Unlisted - you can send out a private link to the video, and anyone who knows that link will be able to view the video.

Private - choose exactly who can and cannot view this video.
