Why Should You Follow People?
We know you’ve got a lot of things to do, so following people on Twitter may seem unnecessary at first. But it’s not!
Here are just a few reasons why you should take the time to follow someone on Twitter:
- Get feedback from customers
- Learn from leaders in your industry
- Grow your network
- Discover interesting, shareable content
- Watch competitors
We’re going to take a look at a bunch of ways to find people to follow on Twitter, starting with Twitter Search.
Step 1
In a browser Go To: http://search.twitter.com/advanced.
Step 2
You can search by words, people, places, and more– just type in what you want to search on. In this example we’re using New Braunfels. Click Search.
Step 3
From your search results, find a tweet that sounds interesting, and Click On that person’s profile.
When you search by Twitter location, you can find people to follow in your area, and identify local influencers.
Step 4
If you like the bio and profile of the person who’s name you’ve clicked on, Click Follow. While you’re on their profile, see who they’re following – you might find someone else that interests you.
Step 5
Twitter also has some ideas about who you might like to follow. To see, Click On Who To Follow at the top of your profile bar.
Step 6
From this screen there are 3 tabs. The first shows you suggestions for people to follow. If someone looks interesting, Click Follow next to their profile.
Step 7
Go To the Browse Interests Tab to see suggested user lists by topic.
Let’s Click On Food and Drink.
Step 8
The suggested user list can be a great way to find out who the influencers are in your industry.
Here we have a collection of users who are interested in food. For example, we found @ruthreichi the former editor for Gourmet Magazine.
Step 9
The third tab, Find Friends, gives you the option to find your existing contacts on Twitter by using either your email or LinkedIn account.
Step 10
You can even use third party sites to find relevant people to follow.
Wefollow, founded by DIGG founder Kevin Rose, is a Twitter Directory where users can list themselves by topic.

Twitaholic is another service that allows users to find influencers to follow. Twitaholic keeps lists of the top 100, 200, 300, and more Twitter Users.
