LinkedIn is pretty serious about your privacy and gives you a lot of control over how people can see and reach you.
Step 1
Login to your LinkedIn Account and Click on Profile.
Step 3
If you know someone's email address you can always send them an Invitation to connect on LinkedIn..
If you don't know their email address, however, and you were not a colleague or classmate in the past, you have two additional ways to get in contact with existing LinkedIn members:
- Get introduced through a connection (Introduction)
- InMail --which is only available to premium LinkedIn users
This page lets you set your preferences for how you prefer to be contacted through LinkedIn.
We recommend you accept both types of messages. You may want to spend more time using LinkedIn before considering an upgrade to the premium version.
When you are happy with your settings, Click Save Changes.
Step 5
On this page you can set the options for how others see your profile. Let’s start by setting our Custom URL.
Enter your name or nickname in the box and Click Set Address. As long as the name is available, you’ll see a message that says: Your CustomURL has been saved.
If available, we recommend you use the same name that you will use for Facebook, Twitter and other networks. This makes it easier for people to find you across networks.
Just like Facebook and Twitter, LinkedIn enables you to choose a custom URL that makes it easier for you to share your LinkedIn profile with other people. Make sure you choose a name that will positively represent you and your organization.
Step 6
After setting your custom URL, scroll down to set options for your page.
You can decide exactly which sections of your profile you’d like to make public. For example, you can choose to only show your name and location, but not your picture or websites.
Be as open as you are comfortable being. Most users enable the “Full View” to make it easy to make connections and let people you know find you.
Once you’re happy with your settings, click Save Changes.
You're Getting Connected!
Congratulations! You're starting to get connected.
