In the Twitter "What’s Next" section, they list sending out your first tweet as the first step after setting up your profile.
We recommend customizing your profile and background before sending your first tweet.
Step 1
Let’s start customizing your Twitter profile. First we’ll add a profile picture and a short bio.
Click Upload A Profile Picture.
Step 4
Double-check to make sure that your photo has been selected.
Then fill out all of the other great stuff Twitter wants to know, like your location, website, and a bio.
Click Save.
Why Add A Bio?
The more visitors to your page know about you, the more likely they will be to follow you. So it’s important to add a descriptive, meaningful bio to your profile.
Add something about your business and your personal interests. See our section on Twitter Bio’s for more suggestions.
Step 5
Make your profile your own and customize your Twitter Background.
Click on Design.
Step 6
Twitter has a bunch of pre-made themes you can choose, or you can upload a favorite image of your own.
In either option, you can update the link and sidebar colors to match your background.
Click on Change Background Image.
Step 7
Upload your background.
Here, we have chosen a pre-made background.
Click Save Changes.
Step 8
Get fancy and edit the colors of your twitter profile sidebar and links.
Click Change Design Colors.
Step 9
Here you can change all of the colors on your profile. Once you're happy with the colors, Click Save Changes.
Congratulations!
Your profile’s looking good.
